I have a fire & ice bar under my tailgate. It's all mounted and wired correctly. But what I want to do is tap into the reverse wire with a push button switch to be able to do a quick flash of white. For those people that love to tailgate. Sometimes I can't even see the car behind me because they are so close.
Does the plug over the spare tire control all lighting on the back of the truck or just the trailer connections. I want to tap in so when I push the button the reverse lights and my light bar flash. I have all LEDs so current draw won't be bad at all for my switch.
I know what you're saying, it irritates me as well, but, it aint gonna make any difference.
I've got the similar bar from Rampage, all the same features, along with the factory brake control. When the braindead are on me, I've hit the brake controller slide. All my brake lights come on, the light bar all the way across, both stop lamps, along with the highmount on my cap. Makes zero difference, the fool will still be there, and I know if I really hit the brakes instead of just the lights, I'd be getting a new light bar, bumper, tailgate, and maybe even a new truck.
Now, flashing your backup lamps on them could even get you a ticket, although it seems like it would be worth it at times.
I'm even more irritated by the @6#(&MSETholes that refuse to dim their lights.
There. I feel a little better now!!!!
I understand it probably won't change much. If it works on 1 in 5 people then I guess I would be happy. I'm not to worried about cops out where I live. As long as I don't do it to them they won't worry about it to much. I know my led reverse lamps are very bright and will grab someone's attention behind me. My main concern is the reverse cam trigger. Does it work off the power going to the reverse lamps or from the computer to tell it to turn on. And if I could tap into the single reverse wire at the connection above the spare tire or would i need to tap both sides and my light bar
I can't answer that without seeing a wiring diagram. I might be able to find out when I get back home to my house tomorrow afternoon/evening. I have a source for diagrams as a bookmark on my laptop up there. I'm on my wife's computer right now, and just can't remember the website. What year and model is your truck?
On edit; I found the website, EBSCOhost - world's foremost premium research database service Type in tech for user name and password, go down to the auto repair area, and follow that. It will ask a number of questions to see what you want to do. I'm not totally sure it has 2012 and up, but it's worth a shot.
I suppose you could always wire some auxiliary lights in with a toggle/rocker switch in the cab somewhere if you really wanted to.
I've thought about this in the past as well, but my idea was to use a bunch of photographer's flash/strobe lights. I figured by the time they pulled the tailgater out of the ditch I'd be long gone. Could wire them to the grille for the knuckleheads driving at you with high beams too.
