Looking for some voices of experience out there.... I know we have many.
Bigger spring will make this worse. When it drops, does it stay there or bounce back up over 50 PSI? You need a full Hutch mod... sorry.

My 160/100 sticks do just fine with the stock fuel pump... but mine is brand new (from Clay).

You did a fantastic job at making your truck roadworthy for years to come and your fuel pressure sensor is after the fuel filter... perfect.

It recovers immediately back to 62psi once I let off the throttle, and under light and medium throttle it holds at 59-62. It slowly drops down to 41 under WOT. I'll start gathering the parts for the hutch/harpoon mod. Anybody selling a kit yet?

There are kits out there but i have not had any experience with them...
3/8 ss tubing & compression fitting...
5/16 ss tubing & comp fitting...
Filter of your choice...
Fuel line...
Hose clamps...

I would run it down to 1/8 tank before trying to drop it...
The 2nd time i dropped my tank... it had about 1/4 tank in it... and it was a total bear to handle...
The fluid weight wants to keep shifting...

I need to do that mod too. I noticed this last tank my engine was considerably louder when it got down to about 3/8's of a tank. Filled it back up, and a few miles down the road, it was very noticeably quieter. I also have the FRX on my truck. Mine came with only one spring, it's the early edition!

I bought mine from Strictly Diesel. Yes you can piece your own together but I didnt feel like trying to figure out what I needed. The kit is great and very easy to install once the tank is down.

I would order a pickup foot also from Diesel Orings because more then likely yours will be cracked or broken off.

Thanks a million, Gentleman. I will be buying the kit for simplicity sake. Strictly Diesel it is Also had to order a new IPR valve from Rock Auto. $168 shipped was a damn good price. Mine now has the tip broken off of the little needle since I put it together backwards. Still works like normal, very drive-able but it is throwing a code for IPR on start-ups.

OK...back to plodding away in this thread. Hutch Mod kit came today. I got the stuff for the hutch mod after finding my fuel pressure dropping 22 psi on a WOT run after FRx installation. SOOOOOO, glad I finally got that fuel pressure gauge or I would still be in the dark on this issue I had. Here are some "dropping the tank" photos:

Had to jack her up about 4 inches to get the tank out. MAKE SURE you only let the tank down a couple of inches before DISCONNECTING the plug for the fuel float/level sender. It is only two wires and could be easy to rip the wires right out of the plug if the heavy tank pulls it down. Easy to reach it with the tank down 4 inches. Right behind the driver's rear tire next to the upper shock mount.

Once out, I found that someone, somewhere is missing a beach. That beach is on top of my fuel tank

I used a big 'ole strap wrench to get it loose. Not bad at all.

Ah! There it is. Damn....Rich and Rob were right. It was in about 20 pieces all over the bottom of the tank. I found a couple of water pockets in there as well, but they were very small. Pleasantly surprised at the lack of water in there.

I have it ready to go back on the truck after installing the kit. I just ran out of daylight, so I'm going to finish in the morning and take some more photos.

Here is the rest of that pickup foot after I fished it out. See the little water globule in there?

Next to a complete foot I got to install with the kit at Rob's behest. Thanks, Rob!

You can't put the pickup assembly back in wrong on my Excursion. It has tabs that line up only one way with notches in the hole at the top of the tank.

I'm going to take the mixer apart tonight and analyze the innards. I may take photos if I find something cool. I am NOT doing the Harpoon mod, because I found my vent hose is already flush with the top of the tank, and the filler tube is almost horizontal with the top of the tank. Not sure if all Excursions are like this...

Mike,

First of all, very nice job. This thread will be useful to folks for years to come.

Couple questions. What made you decide to use the 90 degree adapter for the fuel sender? I was trying to decide which one to get and ordered the straight one from Clay based on the pic of the post filter location on Dieselmanor. But it looks like the 90 fits post filter as well.

On the boost fitting - what drill size and tap did you use? I read "Q" or "R" or 11/32". Was your fitting a 1/8" NPT thread?

Jeff, thanks for the kind words. I went with the 90* fitting due to my having a GPCM, and not a GP relay. There isn't enough room in there as it is between the fuel bowl and spider, and a straight fitting would have put my fuel pressure sender right underneath/against the forward plug on the GPCM.

11/32 is the correct bit (AKA "R"), and the little fitting that came with the gauge was a 1/8 NPT. If you go the route I did (and others) by putting the boost hose on the spider right after the turbo outlet, be VERY CAREFUL not to run the tap in too deep. Tap a little, test fit, tap a little more, etc...

Here are some pics of the fuel mixer that was on my X. I got it apart and snapped photos of the insides. It had caught quite a bit of stuff in the screens, but it was far from clogged.

This thread has some meat on the bones... good job! Does the kit come with the parts to replace the fuel line? The quick-disconnects are your other problem.
