Rich, my interior will look similar to yours after the weekend. I went with different gauges, though. The paint I bought for the pod was supposed to be an exact match for my interior, but it is off just a shade.
Yah the buildup all around that ring and shaft are a familiar nastiness.
A nitro solvent in a spray form has done good for me getting that crap off... i usually use that winchester powder blast...
Here are the same parts all cleaned up...my die grinder and wire wheel are my best friends right now.
I have some photos of the re-assembled and painted turbo I will post up.
Keep in mind guys, my turbo had no play in the shaft/wheel, but I could feel the grooves in the bearings with my fingernail. Like Rich is saying about injector cups...maybe there is a mile mark you should just rebuild it to keep it from failing on you.
I see quite a few turbos in the shop. If there is minimal vertical play and no horizontal play I leave it alone. If the wheels are coming close to the housing or there is horizontal play they get rebuilt.
I just replaced all my injector o-rings and washers and stuff at 170K miles. I fingered my turbo and it went back in just like it came out.
that all looks great mike, thanks for the pics. are you planning on a trip north any time soon, i've got a laundry list a little bigger than yours i'm getting ready to start here soon.
well the parts i have on hand are: front helper springs, ball joints, 6.0 trans cooler, pillar pod an gauges, hutch an harpoon, a add on lift pump, ccv can mod, led mod, ts-6 chip, back up lights, maybe more
LOL! That is a good list. Mine is getting shorter by the hour as I toss stuff on and replace this and that. Gonna start re-assembly in a bit. Waiting for some paint to dry I've already done most of the stuff on your list. If you don't get to it by the summer, I'll stop by! Cincinnati is right about where I would stop anyway. Last time I stayed the night in Columbus.
