Ive read that exact thread, thats where I found that any CJ-4 rated oil will work. Main reason for synth they claim is dino can't take the heat like sythetic can. It causes the turbo to coke the drain and the top ring lands get hot and stick.. I have a hard time believing that the little TDI can put more heat into the turbo oil or the top ring land then my PSD under a full 1200º 10 mile pull....
Also keep in mind that is the very same forum where just today I asked about using coolant additive and was told these small HP engines don't need it and its a waste of money. I've also been told that a lift/assit pump is a bad idea, the EGR valve needs to stay, and that the factory exhaust and intake on a jetta is the best you will find......
I'll be sure to report back when it blows up, but its already got 300K on it so it might be a bomb.
my buddy that inspired me to get mine is as tight as anyone i ever have known...always ran syn...he is smarter than me and always ran it and everyone on there to so i didnt try my luck. The darn things arent cheap to fix either. Also the ohc and alluminum head cant hate syn.
yet my psd gets dino oil...makes sence if you dont think about it.
