2002 f350 7.3 diesel with 153,000 miles. Acts like its running out of fuel on hard acceleration. Is the filter in the vally pan the only filter in the system? The truck has also got a whine i have traced to the fuel pump in the frame rail on the drivers side. jmdjr67
there is a filter on the top of the motor, and a set of screens in the fuel thank that can get clogged. search hucth harpon to see how to fix the tank.
You could disconnect the fuel line at the back (input side) of the fuel pump and take your gas cap off and blow compressed air back into the tank. This will backflush the pickup screen, temporarily of course. If you have a sudden change (improvement) in performance that would indicate a clogged screen, and is much easier than dropping the tank to investigate.
-Thanks, Wonder why Ford did this? different capacity for the C&C trucks?
-Are the short bed and long bed PICKUPS tanks all plastic?
-Certainly Bio-Diesel fuel won't eat the plastic??

Who the heck knows. But they are mounted behind the rear diff, where our spare tire is.
I have not seen reference to steel tanks on the side, except vans?
Many have run vo/bio for years so guess not.

I suspect it has something to do with the number of trucks created of each type. It would have been nice if they had created a plastic tank for the cab-n-chassis trucks, but they are a more-limited production. I suspect it's cost related.

Yes, both are plastic, but different lengths, thus different capacities.

I have heard absolutely nothing that would indicate bio-diesel has any adverse reaction on the plastic used.
