Ford didn't start making factory Dually PICKUPS until the early 80s...I think '83 to be exact-we "almost" bought one then with the 6.9 Diesel.
There ARE adaptors available so you can use the stock single wheels on a truck: Welcome - Arrowcraft :: Helping You Handle the Road for over 30 years! has pretty good quality stuff, it looks like they have stopped carrying the ones for 5 lug F150s and have stopped carrying the fiberglas fenders for the '73-'79 bodystyle......
I bought the "Rikka" dual wheel kit from JC Whitney YEARS ago for my '75 F250 and anouther for my '78 F150 they worked great as well.
No one is going to flame you here on the FTE for asking a question!
Thanks, Supercab!!!!! Thats a great website!!! And its definitely worth a look into. Would make converting a 79 F350 SRW easy! I hope no one flames me...........Ive helped a lot of people on here in the past. Mainly F150 info since that is where the majority of my experience lies. I just havent been posting on here much in the last year and a half.....been way too busy with life in general........I'm not worried about styleside beds and fenders since it will be a flatbed anyway. I'm not even real concerned about using a dentside frame and running gear since this will be a cummins conversion. My main concern is heavy axles and budd style wheels all around. Just looking for ideas from folks who have done such a build. I even have a 78 chev DRW 1 ton 4x4 that I have considered using as a platform for a cab swap. This isnt my first rodeo as far as fab work and conversions are concerned. I just want to build a heavy duty 4x4 with a flatbed, diesel motor and enough hauling capacity to tow a large bumper pull camper and be able to haul my side by side atv on the flatbed. Since I am a semi owner-operator, I love the budd style wheels on a one ton and the duals offer their own advantages. Plans include lots of BIG truck touches like stacks, lots of lights and aluminum diamond plate. Possibly some semi style aluminum fuel tanks. Lets see what you other guys have done!!!!!!!!
There is a truck on here somewhere that has the swap, I can't remember who though. There was a good thread about it a while back.
"Plans include lots of BIG truck touches like stacks, lots of lights and aluminum diamond plate. Possibly some semi style aluminum fuel tanks." - This stuff might get you some burn marks, lol. To each their own though, done right anything can look good. I saw a Supercab Dually/flatbed a while back on CL with stacks and it looked ok. Personally I think stacks belong on big rigs and tractors. :P
I agree, It might not be for everyone, but its what I want...... These touches done right can look good.....trust me. I'm a big truck NUT so I know what I like LOL. Dont want to sell that F350 4x4 in your sig do you?
I'm doing a basic cab swap, 78 f350 drw long wheelbase onto a 89 f350 drw short wheelbase. not a 4x4? 4x6. I've just finished cutting off 2 metal decks and am now taking the cab off the 89. If theres anything about this swap that may be of interest to you check out my garage alblums. theres one thats showing the differences that I'm encountering. Now that the weather is getting better I'm getting 4 - 5 hours of work in per day so things start progressing at a decent rate. The 89 cost me $ 450, the body was crap and I need to replace the slave cylinder which is why it was cheap. I'm building mine to pull a 32' 5th wheel Rv.
Ive got a build thread around here somewhere. Use the rearend from a 73- chevy dually with the pickup bed. They are 72" wms. Dont get one from a dumptruck or anything like that.
There was also a guy here locally, he passed away last year, but ever since I transferred here in 1981 he had a bluish purple '79 F-350 4X4 with DRW and some aftermarket (I think) fiberglass fenders. His did not use adapters but used the deep wheels on rear like a 1 ton DRW Cab/chassis model. His front wheels were different I think, so I always thought he converted his.
