Check out this Factory 1964 F250 Dump Box

I just had a guy call me about a one owner 1964 F250 he is selling, says his family custom ordered it from the factory with a dumping box. Here is the ad on a local classified site.

It's not factory, because FoMoCo never offered any such thing.

If special ordered from FoMoCo, Warranty Plate DSO code will have SIX digits, denoting a Domestic Special Order.

After it left the assembly line, FoMoCo sent it to an outside body maker to have the pickup bed modified to dump body.

If a part related to the dump body failed, there would be no listing for it in the Ford truck parts catalog.

Dealer contacts FoMoCo, passes along 6 digit DSO. FoMoCo looks up the order number, passes the info back to the dealer saying where the parts can be found.

Same DSO system used today.

Never seen or heard of them coming from the factory this way. Possibly sold as a regular truck then taken to a conversion place like crown or coach to be made into a dump bed?

I agree, definitely not "factory", more than likely local truck shop modification.

X2, other non factory items, bump wheels and 67-72 tailgate. This one has a door post vin tag, which means built by Ford of Canada.

C4TZ-9940700-A .. Styleside Tailgate-Large FORD block letters: 1964/66 F100/250 2WD, 1966 F100 4WD.

September 1966: FoMoCo obsoleted C4TZ-9940700-A, replaced it with the 1967 (1967/72) F100/350 Styleside tailgate (C7TZ-9940700-A) for use as a "service part replacement."

All the mounting hardware is the same, but 1967/72 Styleside tailgate has smaller FORD letters surrounded by a raised ovate scallop line.

Warranty Plate, VIN same 1966/68 US/Canada / 1965 and earlier Canadian VIN's, Warranty Plates, codes stamped on them are different from US trucks.

VIN examples: 1965 F100 assembled in US: F10DR639896 / 1965 F100 or M100 assembled in Canada: 4991014L-123456-A

N.D. Do you know if the Mercury tailgates for 67 and 68 had the raised part in it? I have not seen one with it..maybe I'm seeing only the early ones.

Only 'real' Merc pickup I've seen in person: 1965 M100 parked in a driveway on Cattle Point Rd. on San Juan Island WA

Whiz over to mercurypickups.com and see if there's 1967/68's pictured.
