1976 f-250 dump truck

I'm going to go look at what is described in the paper as a 1976 ford f-250 dump truck. I just talked to the guy selling it and he knows nothing much about it. Is this a factory build dump truck or a homemade contraption?

I've seen aftermarket kits to make the factory box into a hydrolic dump bed. Usually the kits make the box sit up higher.

Or it could be a custom dump truck style box.

You'll have to let us know how it looks.

I would think that you would want at least a F350 with a dual wheel rear axle to haul that kind of weight.

yeah, would definitely depend on the yard size of the dump bed. I wouldn't trust anything over 10 yards to a non-1-ton chassis.

Just a word of caution to anyone hauling anything heavy and in what looks like a dump truck even if it is not a regular dump truck. The DMV will even pull over and check this "home-made" dump truck that will only be legal to haul what the GVWR on the data plate states. Then in some states you have to license it for that as well or at least for the amount you plan to haul or tow up to the GVWR on the data plate.

Not trying to flame ya Grape, but 10 yards is a big dump box. Thats what you see on the Peterbuilts and Kenworths. A one ton with that size box full of any thing but air is going to have trouble.

There's two mid-seventies (pre '78 at least) F-350 dually dumpers for sale by me (N.E. Illinois). One at $2900 and the other around the upper $4K range, both way out of my budget! I always thought duallys were TOUGH looking but I have no need whatsoever for a dump box. No clue if either one is stock or not... but I did notice the $2900 truck is wearing Camper Special badges.

Thanks for the replys y'all. It was a homemade contraption. Not to bad but not what I was looking for. Here's my delimna: I've got a '96 F-250 4*4 that I absolutely love. It will pull that gates of hell off of their hinges and will pass most things on the road except a gas station. When gas was .99 it wasn't so bad but now that its 1.50 its killing me. I use this truck as my second vehicle as well as my farm tractor towing vehicle. I'm thinking of getting rid of it, buying an older truck to use on weekends, and buying a CAR! Y'all know any real ways to make a 460 get better than 10mpg? Probably just the nature of the beast. Will loosing the emission control stuff really help any? In my state vehicles with farm tags are exempt from the requirements of the clean air act. Any suggestions appreciated.
