78 f350 camper special rear tank

My rear fuel tank needs replacing and of course no replacements are available. Short of getting a custom built tank, what are my options? Truck is a 78 f350 reg cab 2wd camper special powered by a 1989 460 efi....my stock tank is modified to accept the in tank fuel pump as well, and has the California evap.

Am I missing something?

That's a "Non-sequiter".. a Latin term which means "A conclusion or statment that does not logically follow from the previous or proceeding statement or argument".

It's a custom application so there is no replacement for it except to use a stock replacement tank and modify it for your custom application.

make sure the one you get is for the narrower frame rails your truck has.

the frame rails on your truck should be the same dimension as a cab-chassis trucks of that era. so if you find one that is made to fit a cab-chassis it should fit as well.

the 34-3/4" looks right, but you'll want to double check.

This is a f350 camper special, so it has the NARROW frame. All the ones available new online are for the regular wide frame. These trucks have a narrow frameu just like the chassis cab and 4wd highboy trucks.

Those frames are the same width as hi-boys in the rear aren't
They? I have a plastic rear tank out of a 94 f-450 and I set it between
The rear frame rails of a hi-boy frame and it fit perfectly. That's what
I'm going to use when I restore my hiboy. Could be another option
For you.

If Highboy width applies then any rear tank Highboy solution applies https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post12853911

You may find your EFI solution with later bronco II also

Besides the narrow framerails, the 140" wheelbase trucks also have limited real estate between the back cross member and the axle. A true oddball

I've heard of lots of folks using the 97 and older chassis cab tanks as well as the Bronco II tank....but what about fuel pump/sending unit issues? Since I have an 89 EFI motor in it.

What about filler neck issues? Will I have a way to keep my fuel gauge working, both of them that is?

No matter what you use the filler neck and gas cap and wiring will have to be custom or gotten from a fuel injected truck ..
