The plugs are the same, but the pin-outs are different. You would have to get diagrams of both cluster's wiring, compare them and switch the appropriate wires around.

Evan-
Do you have this or know where I can get it? I am going to need this for the new cluster I bought, I am adding a tach and some of the lights of the new tach are in different places so I'll need to move some wires.

I will see if I can find some. While I'm looking, might send Sidewinder4.9 a PM. I *think* he might have them. Not sure.
Finding a '96 specific wasn't that fun. That's why I had to resort to eBay to get mine. I will say I was able to get mine for $10 cheaper than what was listed by sending them an offer. I do know the ABS goes through the tach on the 96, so that is something to think about.
I used this light, which can produce super white, green, and red light. I could use this to shine through a color I put on the back of the gauge face to see how it looked...this way you can get a better idea of how a light will look if you are trying to combine two colors to make a different color (yellow + blue make green sort of thing)...
This worked out really well. I noticed a few differences between the gauge clusters so I started by moving some pins around. Then I plugged the new cluster in and it didn't work until I moved all the pins back to the original locations.
