Guage cluster swap?

I have a 1995 f150 4.9l manual. the guages do not have a tachometer and i was wondering if it was possible to take the guage cluster out of another truck w/ a tach and put it in mine. im new to this site, so thanks for any responses!

yes but a complete gauge cluster from a 92 will not work with 93-97 F150-350 and Bronco. Appearently Ford used the old wiring scheme from 91 and earlier withthe new 92 making that gauge cluster a one off thing and the wiring is not compatible with the newer trucks. If you can try to find a Lightning cluster from 93-95 cuz that will get you the higher MPH speedometer. You can get a cluster from any 93-97 F-series and Bronco Gasoline truck. Make sure it is from a Federal truck and not a Canadien (MPH versus KPH). Also the PSOM in the cluster can only be reprogrammed 6 times, so make sure it still can be reprogrammed because if it cant then you are stuck with whatever programming was set last. I have not check on this but it may be possible to reuse your original speedometer with the tachometer cluster assembly.

I am not a big fan of the glow gauges. I have white face gauges on mine that keep the light color the same but just change the gauge back ground to white instead of black. I got my Nu Image gauge set from mikep134 off of Ebay. I think there is atleast one supporter company on this site that carries them, you might check because supporting our supporters makes the great circle of FTE possible.

when you take the gauge cluster apart you will notice there is a plastic trim ring between the clear bezel and the cluster housing. I painted mine white to augment the white face gauges I installed. I get compliments on the over all look and finished product.

Well, the blue glow will match my cd player that i put in. Its's chrome with a completely blue display. Also, my truck is blue and white. So do you think that I can hook that guage cluster up myself or should I take it to a shop?

Do you have any suggestions for performance upgrades that have worked for you?

Exhaust and high flow filter help right off. I have a K&N filter and a custom 3.5" exhaust on my F150 with a 5.8, E4OD, 5" lift and 33" tires. Of course gears help with big tires and I have 4.10's in mine. This works well for me keeping the RPMS with in the 5.8's performance range. The 4.9 is a torque monster. so if you ever need a new clutch upgrade to the 11" clutch package instead of the 10.5" that is stock. You wil need the larger pressure plate bolts but other than that it is a direct swap and higher torque capacity setup.

You might check the 4.9 engine forum for more exact information.

The Lightning gauge cluster comes stock with a tach. The Nu Image gauge package does not include the A/C heater option as most sell it separately. There is also a silver Nu Image set available I noticed. It might match your stereo better. The Lightning gauges are rare so I would wait until I purchased the Lightning cluster before I got the white face gauge kit. Also realize that the white face or the glow gauges are not the actual gauges you are looking for. They are gauge face replacements that you will have to remove the black stock gauge face and install the new aftermarket gauge face in its place.

Get a tach from same year truck . Check posts they will go into more detail . Some switchs/changes not bad to fix. But its easier just to get right one first but becuase of wireing differences, air bag , abs brakes, ect. 93 no air bag ,94-95 air bag should work ( I have a 95 in my 94) 96 different animal all together. just reuse your speedo save with title hassles ect., as most I find have 200000 miles on them. good luck
