tail gate latch

My latch broke in the closed position. Is it possible to remove the access panel while the gate is closed, or is it possible to open the gate some other way?

take the panel off and you can reach in and unlatch it. A new latch is easy to replace if the cable or a part broke.

No cables in the tailgate, metal rods with JC clips to hold them to the handle and the latches. To much plastic in the latch assembly for my taste, but what can you do.

While in there you might want to hook up a electric tailgate lock solenoid, I have one and it locks the tailgate when the doors lock so you can keep a turd from stealing your tailgate.

I forget the manufacture but I bought it a Summit. It attaches to the latch assembly inside the tailgate. You have to run two wires out of the tailgate that tie into the door lock wires so that everytime you lock the doors it locks the tailgate and does the same for unlock. I put a small connector on mine at the rear of the truck so when I pull the tailgate for the camper I don't have to cut wires. Love it because if the truck is locked so is the tailgate to keep it from getting stolen and no fumbling with keys to lock/unlock the tailgate.

Neal, different manufacturer but same type set-up.

Big, the outside of the latch stays the same, lock, camera handle all remain as is and still function. Just like having power door locks, you can still use your key if you lose the remote or just want to use your key.
