Not sure I understand your question. The cables support the tailgate then opened, the tailgate should still open without the cables, unless they somehow are jamming the latch. If you pull on the handle and it won't open, most likely the linkage inside the tailgate is missaligned or broken. There is an access panel on the inside of the tailgate but not sure if you can take it off with it in the closed position. Do you have a lock on the tailgate? Sometimes it has a tendacy to lock on it's own when you slam it closed.....just an idea....hope that helps.
