for a 2006 F 350, SW, crew cab, 175K miles, EGR deleted (I think sinister delete), new oil cooler, head gaskets and studded, all last year and new fuel pump a couple months ago. Don't know if he had upgrade dummy plugged, stand pipe and STC... This is a work truck with goose neck
The owner of this truck (at least 2nd owner) idle this thing hours on end since he does his paperwork inside the truck. Which explain the EGR deleted/oil cooler and head gasket last year.
Is this a good buy since most of the problem has been replace or run away from it?
The owner paid ~$25K at says 80K miles, and it is at 175K miles now with and additional $15K on work done by either Ford Dealership and Diesel garage.
Technically it doesn't matter what the previous owner paid for the vehichle or how many "upgrades" or work he had done to it although those do somewhat contribute to the overall condition of the vehicle. You have to look at it like a bank or financier. It's "X" vehicle with "Y" miles on it.
I understand about the value of a vehicle depends on the year, model, mileage, and overall conditions. The question was about 6.0 Powerstroke with all the work has been done todate; would it be a good thing or it is a lemon to stay away from.
Just saw him this morning, the truck was idling; typical of diesel truck guys around here...
It is a Lariat, long bed, sand color, 275/70/18 factory tires and rims still in good shape, body and paint job is in very good conditions. He wants $14K for it. As I said before, this is a work truck so it has been worked hard.
Since I don't need a truck, I wouldn't even consider paying $8K. Don't even know where to park the thing at home. My Excursion is currently taking up space on the driveway.
I think 7-8K is a very good deal for you. I doubt you could get it for less. $14K is way too high, IMO. The work is just called routine maintenance. Good luck. BTW, my 2 cents is that this is not a great truck to get if it is just going to sit in the driveway - it really seems to need to be worked.
And with all the idling the turbo may need a cleaning. My truck had similar work done along with a 4 inch lift and stacks its an 07 crew cab sb lariat 6 speed manual. I bought it with 120k miles for 17k so far I love it except I just lost 4th gear synchro so I havve to baby that gear.
He is going to have trouble finding anyone to give him over 10K for it though. Certainly the dealer will not, unless he is overpaying for a new truck.
Other thoughts - I had a long bed - it was really annoying on a daily basis - unless you really need that extra 1.5 ft on the bed, don't get it. It makes every trip a little more difficult. Ease of parking, turning, going to the bank, drive-thru, etc. Until I had the shorter bed for a while, I did not really think it would be that much difference.
I agree on the short bed thing. If you don't need a long bed a short bed is easier to deal with. I actually couldn't get out of a parking spot the other day until the car next to me moved lol. It wasn't there when I pulled in. On the is it worth it question. I paid 14,000 for the truck in my signature with 150,000 miles on it. Which was under bookprice . Just based on the mileage and probably what it books for I wouldn't pay that much for it if I were you. Good luck though.
