As Mike mentioned above, check the UVCH plugs at the pigtails and the gasket for burnt pins. Also pull the fuel filter and see if the fuel in the bowl and the filter itself are black. Could have blown an injector o-ring.
I checked the fuel in the filter and its clean yellow blueish. I still need to take a look under the valve covers though. The 2 connectors on the outside of the Valve covers looks good tho.
Here is the Ford PN (F6TZ-12K073-A) I believe you want the black connector style not the gray ones which had known issues. I think Napa sells a preferred one as well?
It is pretty easy to change out a lot quicker then removing the VC, etc. Unless I am sure of my problem I try to do the easier stuff first. If the CPS does not fix the problem you now have a spare to carry with you.
Hope this helps....
Mike
DONT buy IT in part stores, most are junk. Just buy Ford or IH.
Sorry I haven't posted in a while. But I found one of the 2 connectors on top of the valve cover was burnt up on the corner of it when I unplugged it. Could this be my problem for its miss and lack of power? And when this happened to my truck it started emitting white steam from the dipstick tube. Not so much pressure coming out rather than just a white stream of steam. Could thy burnt connector for the injectors cause it to do that? I'm gonna go pick up a new plug from the local diesel shop and cut the old one off and connect the new one and see if I get my power back and see if the miss goes away.
I took off the valve cover too and couldn't see any other burnt wires or smell any. Just that top 5 pin connector was burnt on the corner. And what could've caused that to get that hot to melt like that?

Oh yeah, that will cause problems. It probably originated with an overheated glow plug wire. The outermost pins are for the glow plugs. Check the resistance of the glow plugs, and the function of the relay.
When you had the valve cover off, did you unplug the little internal harnesses from the gasket, and check those connections?
Make sure you solder and heat-shrink the new pigtail wires. Don't just crimp.
No I didn't check that. And what dk u mean heat shrink and solder it? I thought the 2 pig tails cconnectors on top of the valve covers where for injectors
Each pigtail has five pins. The outermost pins feed the two glow plugs closest to the connector. The next two in feed the two injectors closest to the connector. The middle one is a common pin for the injectors. Stooopid design if you think about it, even moreso with the '99-up trucks that have all that for all four cylinders (so 9 pins total) in ONE connector on each bank. They should have done something like a central five-pin connector with four outer pins going to the four injectors and the center being the common. Then a whole separate connector (or connectors) for the glow plugs. Then, at least, if a glow plug connection overheats and fails, it doesn't take the injector connection out with it.
A lot of in-service electrical connections are done with those crimping butt connectors. They eventually fail, esp. under the hood, with vibration, heat, exposure to the elements. It's better to slip some heat-shrink tubing over the wire, and solder the wire joint and seal it with the heat-shrink. Lasts longer under the rigors of underhood service.
Well I installed that new pigtail and the truck still has a miss. So that didn't fix the problem. Everything that involves the uvch is good so now I'm back to square one. Any hints on where to look next? My I'm guessing maybe injection pump is bad or I have a bad injector or 2. But ever since this problem with the miss shaking the truck rapidly at idle Nd even more trying to accelerate and the lack of power white steam started coming out of the dipstick tube even with the dipstick tube still in. It's just a constant stream of steam but u can't feel pressure of air coming out from it or from the oil filler cap if u removed it. Could this white steam be linked to the miss and lack of power? Maybe from bad injectors or injection pump? Cause this all happened the same day. Unless its something internal that failed in the block. Idk. But if anyone can help me please. I'll really appreciate it. Thanks
