Well ya said it yourself. The increase in the temps. Primarilly the delta or temp differential between the ECT reading and the EOT reading.
The coolant temp and oil temp difference. A delta of 15*deg. greater temp difference between coolant and oil is almost a shure of a restricted [plugging] oil cooler.
The EGR cooler can fail catastrophically or it can start degrading to the point it should be replaced during other work. Sometimes the first sign of failure is a massive cloud of white smoke dumping out of the truck, sometimes it's a wet EGR valve, sometimes it's the temp delta, sometimes it's a chocolate milkshake in the degas bottle, sometimes it's a hydrolocked motor. If the EGR cooler completely lets loose it's probably because of a clogged oil cooler, but if you have a wet EGR valve it could just be leaking slightly even if you currently have a good temp difference. On a used truck if the oil cooler was replaced but not the EGR cooler, the EGR cooler could easily start leaking with an acceptable temp variance of less that 15*.
Kind of depends on what the order of failure is; the oil cooler blocking coolant flow, the EGR cooler packed up with carbon build up, stuck EGR valve, etc. There's not one definitive root cause that applies to all cases, even though the oil cooler is the most common one.
my temps has never change water level never changed today i ran the **** out of it still no changes and never smoked it seems to do it when i start it cold but goes away im leaving for daytona thrusday hauling friends and my bike down last thing i want is to brake down
If the ambient temperatures are very cold where you are, it's not unusual for your truck to smoke a little white during takeoff when the engine is cold. It the symptom disappears once it's up to operating temperature, I would call it normal.
My egr cooler crapped out a couple months ago with deltas of 7-9 consistently. It ruptured causing a hydrolock. I pulled it and plugged and welded the ends plus removed the scoop from the up pipe. Got her back together finally and running good. Only have put about 250 miles on it since I got her patched up but deltas are still good. Didn't change my oil cooler due to the good deltas so I hope that don't bite me later. Left valve plugged in and so far no CEL. Mines an 05.
today i hooked up my trailer drove 35 miles down rte. 11 to the ohio river and back up .no smoke no temp change ran great now going to clean it and get ready to load 4 bikes and off to daytona
