on my 90 f350 7.3 wth the c six trans. the flex plate is the big heavy round disc that has the teeth on it for the starter. the other thin small disc that bolts up there to is called the flywheel.. i see rock auto has a new flex plate 165 bucks . now where do u buy a new flywheel the thin metal disc for the c six set up. i want new. this truck only has right at 200.000 miles nothing for the 7.3. i want new parts. rock auto only list the flex plate
I think you are mixed up. The flywheel is the heavy one the flex plate is for conecting to the torq converter.. I have a used set I'm not using part #1813126c1 It has some wear on it in four places witch is normal because the engine will stop in one of four places when shut down.
The flywheel is the flex plate. The flex plate bolts to the crank, the torque converter bolts to the flex plate.
Are you referring to a retainer ring or tensioner ring? It's possible it's in there, but I don't know for sure myself.
to get techincal a flex plate is for an automatic and a fly wheel is for a manual.
The c6 have a heavy two piece flexplate with a cast iron part and a think tiny part.
The e4ods have a single piece tiny flex plate.
I've use the e4od flex plate on a 6c, But I would get the right on for the engain. They could be blanced diffrently and that brakes the bolts out of the crank shaft.
The IDI Has a flywheel weather its a manual or auto. Flywheel has teeth for the starter and there is a seperate plate that bolts on top of the flywheel with the crank bolts and has holes for the torq converterto bolt up. I have one sitting on my shop floor right now. the term flex plate is used for auto trans I agree, I still say when you have a plate that has significant weight to it and is balanced to the engine its a flywheel.
