I go to start the motor, and it just spins over no fire whatsover. Out of desperation I shoot a liittle starting fluid in the intake, and it statrs and runs fine, and restartes fine. The motor has 38,000. What would cause it to not start the first time withour the starting fluid? I don't like to use the stuff, but I did. Any thoughts? Stan
You have fuel delivery system problems most likely. First thing to check is if the fuel cutoff switch is engaged. If ok, then change your fuel filter if you haven't done so.
These are the 2 basic and simple things to try. If after those 2 and you still have no fire, then you need to get a fuel pressure gauge and see if you're getting pressure on the fuel rail. It could be something as simple as a fuel pump relay all the way up to a fuel pump problem.
edit: Just read over your post and realized that it runs well after the starting fluid. Maybe the fuel pump is not priming the pressure when you turn the key?
I changed my fuel filter, it was quite dirty. I got a filter, and it was too big around, the store said it was the correct one for my v 10. . Come to find out the one in my v 10 is the same as the F150. I think much too small for the job. I will be changing it more often. Wonder whay they used a small filter? Something I will never know I guess. Stan
