Fuel Filter Prob???

My 87 f150 4x4 has developed a nasty habit. After it has been run, and if it sets for 10 minutes it may not fire up. and if it does start it might run a second of two, then die. Heres the goofey part, let it set for 30 minutes MORE, and it fires up. Once (while setting in the grocery store parking lot) I pulled the intake hoses, and sprayed some starting fluid and it would sputter and cough. So I think my electrics are Ok. New rotor, new plugs, no change. So I was thinking maybe the fuel filter is clogged. But cold cranking, no problem, full tilt boogey, WFO (wide-freaking-open) up a long hill, no fuel starvation. And it does this on either fuel tank. Do this sound like a filter problem. I ran some Sea Foam in it about 3 tanks ago. Hmmmm...
Barca.

maybe a bad check valve on the fuel pump. im not sure if it is on all pumps (I beleave it is), but there is a one way check valve on the pump that allows the fule to flow one direction. So that when the truck is off it will hold pressure on the line. so that when you start it back up there is still fuel up to the engine. If the valve is bad it will allow the fuel to go back into the tank when the pump isnt on. So that would cause you to have to crank for awhile to get it to start. could also cause the running for a sec or two and dieing. Just not enough fuel getting to the injectors. try installing a pressure gague on the fuel rail (if that is what your truck has) or somewhere on the fuel system. see if the pressure drops after you turn the IGN off. Do that and post back with the results. GL
