Any idea what engine this bolts to? No part number on it anywhere. It fits the 300,302 bellhousing.

I would say something industrial, maybe a generator or pump.

Have a 302 air compressor at work with a bell housing like that on it, so i would agree its for a industrial application. It mainly just holds the starter on for our application. Not bolted to anything since half is engine and the other half is the compressor.

As in the engine only runs off of 4 cylinders and the other 4 supply complessed air?

One brand that does that is Smith, I've seen old flathead V8's used the same way. One side has the regular head, the other side has a special head.

In technical terms, every engine is a glorified air pump.

We used to work on 460s with one side being a gas compressor and the other side running normally until the oil company's realized there a peice of crap. Who'd of thought?lol

Yes, what would be the passenger side, the 4 cylinders are for the compressor part of it. Pretty slick set up. looks a lot like the pic Mikeo0o0o0 posted. We have a new screw type that is run by diesel now. I was painting that one, so we dug the 302 out to run the sand blaster, it works awsome. Not sure how it works, but you can get cool or warm air out of the 302 compressor, really nice when runiing a jackhammer in the middle of winter. It keeps the tool warmer and blows warm air around you.
