smog pump toast

a couple days ago i started hearing a squeking/squeeling/chirping from the engine bay, i investigated and determined that my smog pump pulley is wobling a bit and causing the squeek. If i spray it with some lubricant it stops for a while but comes right back. A mechanic quoted me 415 bucks for a new pump and an hours labor. I called NAPA and pep boys and they tell me i can get the pump for 50-80 bucks. just trying to see how hard it would be to put on a smog pump. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Keith

Cake. I believe 2 bolts and a couple hoses.

Not sure if you'll have to switch pulleys which you'll need a pulley puller from autozone or such.

Make sure that when you put it back in to not forget any spacers or such on the bolts.

Depends on the year. There are two bolts. One in the top of the pump wich goes through it and into the accessory bracket. The other is a small bolt on the bottom or back of the pump near the bottom that is threaded into the pump. Its really not that hard to remove it, unless the top bolt is corroded badly. Spray the top bolt with some sort of penetrating oil and let it soak before you try to loosen it.

I bought a rebuilt pump for 58 bucks. The problem...need to swap pulleys, so if you don't have a puller, that will cost you another 40 bucks for a puller kit.
The mounting bolts are hard to get to, but not impossible, I would wear leather gloves, the smog pump is an 8 out of ten on the knuckle buster scale.

most auto parts stores rent pullers for a refundable deposit.
