I recently traded a pistol for a clean 77 f-350 supercab camper special. I had a 76 highboy rotting away with good running gear that I wanted to put under the 2wd. after reading the forums I decided it would be easier to get a 4x4 frame. I was pretty lucky to find a powder coated 78 supercab 4x4 frame on craigslist. i got the guy down to $375 for the frame and drivelines. so me and mizsignals hooked the trailer up and headed out on a 3 hour drive (one way) to go and get it. we loaded it up and headed back towards home and found a set of 8" superduty springs on cl on the way back. after mizsignals shamed the guy into selling them for $475 we were on our way home. 1 week later I got a complete 2wd zf5 with pedals, hydraulics and flywheel. for $300. after taking the low pinion 44 knuckles off, I went to skys offroad and had it machined for the crossover steering setup. today i picked it up and also got my shackle flip kit since i am doing a 4" frame drop in the front. also got a steering gear in really good shape for $100 at an old wrecking yard. I have a lot of picture of everything i have before and after its rebuilt and will keep posting on my way thru the project. i have gathered all of this stuff in the last 3 weeks so the project should go fast unless I lose interest!
On the ZF5, are you doing a mechanical linkage or a hydraulic? I want to convert my T18 to a ZF5 and am still on the fence between a hydraulic or mechanical clutch. Look forward to pics. I use photobucket for my pic posting. Just copy the img code and paste it in your message.
I am running hydraulic. the pedal swap looks like it will be easy I will post the pics when I do it. the pedal will be a lot easier to push. I am running a 2wd zf5 with a divorced 205 to help with the driveline angles. lots of pics are coming.
I forgot to mention that on Monday I am running my zf5 flywheel to the machine shop to get neutral balanced I have a d1ve block and its internal balance so now my motor wont spin apart
just got these pics of the 77 camper special that's going to go on my 78 frame. this truck is in pretty good shape. a friend is going to repaint it the same dark blue but down the center and top where it is baby blue it will be silver. I also have a double double tube roll bar that he will paint the same color of silver. just ordered the led retro cab lights today will post more pics soon.
does anybody know where to get new body mount bushings for a supercab?
also do you think I will have to run a body lift to clear the zf5? I have searched around and have not seen much about it any help would be appreciated. thanks
I'm pretty sure the body mounts are the same as a regular cab, they are just spaced back further. I haven't gotten around to buying any yet, but these are what I'm getting; Truck Body Mount And Hardware Kit
has anyone out there done a zf5 swap with a divorced 205? just wondering if I will need to buy a body lift or if minor floor modifications need to be done if any. any help would be greatly appreciated.
