Hi i have a 73-77 grill shell im gonna put in my 79. Well it was kinda scratched and nicked up so i sanded those spots down and got them smooth. But i dont know how to make it match the rest of the grille. Is there a coating i sanded off? Or do i just polish it shiny abd clear coat it?.
actually the factory grilles are anodized...the spots you sanded off will now oxidize...the only way to make them match is to remove the anodizing totally...search this forum for anodizing and you will find several posts where people have used oven cleaner, etc. to remove...then the entire thing can be polished...
Lots of good info on this in various posts. I used oven cleaner (yellow cap) took three times then sanded then polished Tripoli / white / mothers
My only suggestion is if you are going to use a drill attachement to polish go on line and get a couple of polishing cones in different size I did it all with a wheel and it was a PITA
But all in all real happy and the switch out was not that tough.
