Does anyone have any recommendations for a good polish to use or how to tips to shine up a grille shell? The grille on my 79 is straight, but it is dull and has some minor scratches in it.
I know it can be done, I remember seeing them do it on a car show on tv. I don't remember off hand how it was done. I believe the grill is made of aluminum and you would use a polishing compound for just that, but you need to deal with the minor scratches 1st. You may want to post this ? in paint and body forum. I'm sure they could lead you in the right direction. Hope this helps in some way.
I'm interested in same. I was thinking by aluminum polish paint and a buffing wheel for my drill or dremel tool, but I'll wait on answers before I try it.
Do you know what show it was, might be able to look it up online?
If I subscribe to a thread that gets moved, will my subscription still follow it?

Reason: elaborate
Grille surround on the 79 is aluminum with a anodized coating. Put in a "anodized aluminum" search on here, there is lots of info all ready posted on what to do. good luck.
Thanks for being consistent. Will my subscription follow a thread once moved or do I have to resubscribe and unsusbscribe, or will i find out soon enough?
BTW, thanks for the links! I did a search and got a jillion loose hits very much off-topic... teach me to fish here and I'll be more diligent about researching before posting. I do know about using different search string keywords etc. but haven't improved my technique much.

Reason: wanted to thank him
You will also notice how diligient I am about people titling the thread properly with the topic in.
The reason:
Searching TITLES is a faster more efficient way to find things.
The by TITLE data base is so much smaller than the Message box data base.
Titling threads with the least amount of words but with the most info can be difficult for some.
How I found those threads I posted was by using the rare word "Anodized" (in the Message box for the appearance forum) because someone can mention it in a thread about grille surrounds and that where these type threads get moved to.
Because: Grille surrounds are anodized from the factory. They aren't chrome plated as many people think they are.
I didn't have time to search the word "anodized" for the 73-79 forum
How about you try it ?
Maybe some related threads never got moved
Using the word "Polish" in either search zone will just bring up many un-related threads to what you want to know about.
Using the Right Terminology:
Q: Is the part in question.... actually called a Grille shell ?
Ford listed it as a Grille Surround.
What other names could this part be called ?
Search Rare or hardly used words.
I used to have a sig that read:
"Welcome to FTE, Where Terminology is Everything"
Yes, the thread subscription follows the thread as long as hasn't been removed from the open forums.
You've covered many points here that should serve all of us well. I do try many of the techniques you've mentioned, using different forms of words. Sometimes I even try mispellings, e.g., tail gate, tailgate, talegate, etc. , and sometimes by this get returns where I otherwise wouldn't.
I understand proper titling, and how the search is exponentially expanded if looking for keywords in postings instead of just titles.
All said, you come up I suspect with some more focused hits than I've been able to, maybe I should set it up better using advanced search or always use advanced searches. Seems even then I get alot of erroneous hits. I'll try to search this thread using the Mil1ion Method, as you suggested.
Thanks again for your response and to your nurturing my addiction!
