Too much pressure

I got it running, finally, it was doing good till I noticed gas leaking out of the fuel pump, so I swapped it out today and now it pumps way too much!, it was coming out of the carb vent tube. Now I think an in line fuel pressure regulator may be needed now. What else are my options?
Yes, I Checked the needle valve and even swapped carbs but still the same. It's a stock 1 brl carb on it by the way.

It's possible you just got a bad pump that puts out too much PSI. It wasn't doing that before the fuel pump, was it? Just leaking?

Rather than going back and forth to find the right pump, I'd be better off just getting a regulator then.

Check the needle, seat, and float. Unless the pump is putting out a crazy amount of pressure, like 12 psi, it shouldn't blow past a healthy needle and seat with a good float set properly.

I would suggest getting the correct pump.

Not sure if you're using mechanical or electrical but I'm gonna guess electrical. A fuel return path is good, it allows the excess to go back to the tank and doesn't strain the pump, this allows it to operate how it was designed to operate. Restricting it is never a good thing.

A common analogy is the human (or animal) heart and blocked arteries, the pump fails earlier than it otherwise would (all else being equal).

mechanical pump and I checked the needle the first thing. To get a pump with the correct psi output I may end up making several trips to the parts store.

On the first carb was there a filter that screwed into the carb? If so, I would figure a way to put that filter (a new one, of course), in line. I found a similiar problem. The filter reduces fuel psi going into the carb. Otherwise, Summit sells an adjustable regulator, 1--4 psi, for about $30.

Good luck.

It's really not too common to get one that puts out too much PSI. I've heard of it, but having two 300s, I've replaced the fuel pump a few times and have never ran into one. Sometimes you're just the 1/1000.
