1983 6.9 starter
Is there a difference in starters between the 83-84 6.9's and the later models, the specs say the earlier ones are 10 tooth and the later are 13, will the later model 6.9/7.3 gear reduction one work?

Yes, it will be better. The reason they went to a gear reduction is the compression of these engines makes it hard to crank over so they reduced the gears so it would make it easier on starters. The flywheel is the same.
