starter differrences

Hey i have a 84 f250 and was wondering if you can use the gear reduction starter on these 6.9's? it says the gear reduction ones are 13 tooth and the 84 direct drive one is 10 tooth? im not sure what to think.. do you need to change the flexplate or ring gear? what years ahve 13 and what years have 10 teeth on the starter?

That's what he said. I have one on my 87 6.9. Because of it's reduction they put on three more teeth to keep up the cranking rpms.
