Truck Therapy

I was a bit grouchy today, then spent 45 minutes fixing the light in my glovebox and adjusting the latch just so. All is right with the world, no more grouchyness.

Nice. I usually go down to my home gym and take my frustrations out on the weights, it always makes me feel better.

Both are better than using alcohol for that purpose

Agreed.

I usually find something productive to do. If I don't, I'll sit around thinking about what made me mad and stew over it.

If it works that way, in the last few months I've had enough truck therapy to last for decades.

I think this is the main reason I have my truck. I rarely need a truck and I could get by without one, but it does me a lot of good to work on it a little here and little there. It is probably the least complicated thing in my life, and I don't have to work on it unless I want to. Has anyone else noticed that wrenching on a daily driver is miserable, but working on a project is fun? I have had people ask why I don't buy a new truck but I don't even want or need one.

I do basic maintenance on our DD's, like oil & filter, shocks/struts, CV joints, etc. But, I don't consider it fun. Instead it is a good use of my facilities and tools to keep the costs down. However, if it gets very deep I take it to a pro.

On the other hand, on the truck it is fun to do everything.

That's because you're working on one so you can get to work, whereas you work on the other one to get away from work.

That's because they're so much easier to work on!

I usually browse YouTube every now and then and sometimes watch the automotive programming on Saturday mornings to see how things are done on the newer vehicles. I saw a guy changing a timing belt on a newer import that was either a 4 or a 6 cylinder with a DOHC setup (can't remember), and all I can say is, "Wow." Those things are so much different than the old "inefficient" push rod motors. Not to mention so much more expensive.

Funny how even a small thing done well gives you a sense of accomplishment, but working on the DD is a chore.
