The Mrs loves the grab handle on the pillar in the '07 F150 for getting in the truck. She wishes the '85 had one. Is there such a critter available for our trucks? If not, what works well as a 'make your own'?
TIA!
The closest thing the F-series got to a grab handle is on the F-600/F-900 models, during 1980-1998.
The handle mounts on the outside "B" pillar at the same hight as the door windows. This aids the driver and passenger climbing into the truck. The F-600/F-900's are a lot taller than the standard pickup etc . . .
They use webbing and tread it through a hard plastic, or probably rubber, grip tube. I would prefer handles that are rigid, but this is not too bad and the price is reasonable. The only options out there seem to be buying one designed as original equipment for a new truck out there and making it work (saw some used from a Nissan truck that looked like of could just bolt on.
I installed grab handles and running boards on my 86 F350. They are from a 2005 Expedition. I had to re shape the steel inner frame on the grab handles to match the body. I used the original mounting bolts with nutcerts. I have down loads but dont know how to url them.

My fathers 1986 F350 crew cab has the handle for all four doors and a handle between the dash and glove compartment mounted horizontally, all factory to my knowledge.
Upload the pictures to an FTE Album that you create'
Upload them to a hosting service such as Photobucket, Image Shack, etc.
In all cases, use the BB Code (aka IMG code) provided... just copy that code and paste it into the text of your post to make the picture(s) appear inline.

Pictures?
I can tell you that they are not factory though. Also, Do not trust the handle between the dash and glove box. There is nothing substantial there to support a handle. It's all plastic and it will break.
Dad's truck has the handle on the dash, and my wife has been using it to get in. I can see the dash flex when she pulls on it and I know it won't take much for it to break since it is just plastic. I could reinforce it when I do the transformation, but am swapping out the dash and will eliminate the handle.
I was at the junkyard one day and I found an Oldsmobile car with a nice grab handle on the passenger side that was actually very easy to install into my truck. The driver's side one had a light built in which wouldn't be too hard to wire up if you could fish the wires through to where you could tie into the cab light circuit.
I made two holes and used the original screws and that was it. It's very solid and I can put some weight on it and it holds up great.
I believe the car was an Olds Aurora, not sure of the year.

I installed it on the passenger side right above the center of the door opening, and I will get a pic in the morning since it's dark out and my phone doesn't have a flash. Plus I've got a bunch of junk apart in the cab right now after a thwarted stereo install. lol.

Ok, thanks. I'm thinking that might be a good solution to taking the one off the dash.
You have one on the dash? I might have put mine there if it had any kind of actual structural strength above the glovebox, but then again having it up where I put it makes it look stock.
