I live in a small town called Raiford in between Jacksonville and Gainesville. I am looking at some welders today, hopefully I will find one this weekend.
I've been through Raiford a few times, IIRC Main Street is SR121.
If you get a welder, do yourself a BIG favor and get an auto-darkening helmet. When you're trying to do tack welds on sheetmetal you can get really frustrated trying to flip the helmet up and down while trying to keep your mig gun in the right position (at least I do). I bought an auto-darkening helmet from Northern Tool a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't believe the difference. At rest the helmet lens is about a #4 or 5 shade, easy to see what you're doing. As soon as the arc strikes it darkens to a 9 or 10 shade.
For what I do, I bought the "cheapie", $45.00 and well worth it.
Theres youtube videos if you want. The main thing is getting used to wire speed and amperage, but most welders come with a chart/guide. 2 - 3 hours of honest practice and you'll be all smiles.. If you use the gas outside make sure your wind sheltered. I got an old canvass tent at the thrift store for $10, took out the door flap and cut out the floor. Looks goofy but it works for me.

Yep, 121 runs right through the middle of Raiford. I already have an auto darkening hood. When I was in my early 20's I worked for a fab shop as a welders helper and bought everything I needed to be a welder... just never got to the point of actually doing it. I learned to run a mig gun and actually did some welds on some duct work that was used out at DuPont... but that has been a long, long time ago and I haven't done it since.
GMAW/FCAW welding is alot like using a caulk gun. Just takes a little practice to get everything dialed in and get the hang of it. It'll eventually become like an extension of your hand
