Hi i have a bit of a problem and was hoping someone could help.
I have a 1978 F250 4x4 regular cab with two tanks. My problem is my Aux or mid ship fuel tank leaks gas out. I have searched all over and apparently my truck falls into a category of the mid ship fuel tanks that are not made any more. I also found that the tank may be in good condition but some rubber seal or something on the tank may be bad and that part is no longer made as well. I have found people with the same problems but never a solution. Is there anyone that knows of a place that a new tank can be found or if my tank is good where i can get the replacement seal or whatever it is. Any work around solutions or fixes of any kind would be greatly appreciated.
Here in southwest pa there is a tank restoration shop called Moyer's. They restored my tank about two yrs ago when i had a small leak. It cost me $200 and its going to last alot longer than most new tanks you can buy these days. It's actually going to last forever because they offer a lifetime warranty. You can't beat that. They seal the inside and out and install a new sending unit.
My advice is, if you can find a business like this get it done there. It's the perfect fix in your situation if you can't find the aftermarket tank you need. Hope this helps.
I have a '77 F150 and installed a mid tank last year without a problem. I ordered from LMCtruck.com (Truck Parts and Truck Accessories). I ordered the tank, sending unit and hoses and all fit as original.
LMC, jeff bronco graveyard, parts geek, Dennis Carpenter non of these places make the tank i need. like i said something about the fact that its 4x4 and plastic but no one makes this one anymore.
a little more info would be helpful...is the tank original? is it the side mount tank or the rear tank or the tank behind the seat? the tanks they show on LMC should fit...you said the tank is plastic? do you have any pics?
If it's the front tank you are talking about then it's a big plastic tank. I don't believe any parts are available for them including the big metal pan that holds them in. I had to make up a sender out of old rear and front tank sender pieces a while back. I have two tanks around here that I just can't bring myself to throw away.
Yeah it the auxiliary tank/forward saddle/side tank i need and the metal holder/guard is fine its original plastic and i guess that's the problem for some reason no one makes this tank anymore. the sending unit is also fine. I guess i am looking for an alternative. I have found fuel tank makers but its not an original fit and its like $500-$800 and i cant see paying that much. I guess a work around or something is what i am looking for. I read somewhere about someone mentioning a mustang tank could work or something but i am looking for suggestions that someone has had the same problem and found a solution. I know i am not the only one on here that has had this problem but in other posts i never found where they posted the solution they used. Anyway any help is appreciated.
