hey all. heres the part im talking about. under the truck, the stamped steel linkage that connects the selector lever to the lever on the transfer case. anybody ever have any problems with the little stamped steel linkage popping off the 4HI/4LO selector lever? theres a little fitting that it presses onto but mine wants to pop off. if i replace that fitting is it gonna be reliable? are there any "engineering" projects to fix this problem?
90 f250. sorry. i got about 2 feet of snow up here in anchorage so its a commitment to get underneath the truck right now for pics.
its reals simple though. theres a 12" piece of stamped steel that connects the selector lever to the lever on the transfer case. on the selector side, the linkage just pops onto this little rubber nipple type of fitting. the connection is weak and it doesnt want to hang on. itll pop off there just driving down the road.
if youve never had this problem it wont mean much to you but its frustrating and if somebody's had this problem theyll know exactly what im talking about.
I just had this happen to me on Saturday. On my truck, the bushing is completely gone. I'm just going to replace it first. I'm still trying to find out what it is actually called, but searching I think it is the "automatic transmission shift linkage bushing", but not sure. Maybe yours is just worn out enough, and needs replacing? It seems to me the design has gone through a lot of miles before failing.
