I just got transfer case linkage for my truck because mine was missing when I bought the truck, so I was trying to put it in today and I don't know what goes where, I put it together the way I thought was right and I am having problems shifting in and out of 4wd, the tcase keeps grinding gears, even when I have it in nuetral, I think I have something screwed up, I was wondering if anyone had any photos of their linkage that I could look at to see if I have mine swapped or something like that. I have a np203 divorced mount in a 74 highboy, I am also pretty sure my t case has been converted to part time due to the fact that when I had no linkage I was able to shift it out of 4wd and into 2wd and drive the truck. Any help would be great!!----Jack
My linkage in my highboy was the same piece of crap. Right now I just made up a bracket to shift b/w 4h and 2h since mine has the conversion. I eliminated the original and tore it apart and rigged the handle on my new one. The top lever shifts b/w 2wd and 4wd and the bottom lever is the range selection. I just put my range in high and left it without any linkage on it. If I need low range I have to crawl under and switch it but I never use it. Someday I might rig a double lever setup but this works fine now.
So am I correct in saying that on the tcase, the flat lever that is closest to the case, is the 2wd to 4wd lever, and the "U" shaped lever that is more towards the driver's side (outside of previous mentioned lever) is the range lever? Because before I had linkage I used to on shift in and out of 4wd, using the flat lever, and used to leave the range in "HI" I actually by accident discovered that I could have the truck run in 2wd high, which was kinda cool. I am thinking that I might have my likage rods on correctly but they just need to be adjusted which is gonna take some figuring out. I would really like to have my linkage hooked up correctly and be able to shift into any range from in the truck. I nearly went out of my mind trying to find replacement linkage for the truck cause mine was removed a long time ago I guess cause the cab was so rotted that it kept shifting on its own. Anyway, I guess I am gonna have to mess with it some more. This week I have to crawl under the truck to change the input and output shaft seals on the tcase since they are leaking like crazy so I will look into the linkage a little more then, for now I will just remove it so I can drive the truck.-----Jack
Now all I need to know is which lever on the shifter is which? I am still having a hard time getting it set up, its amazing how difficult it can be to figure out where 2 rods go!!! LOL Actually a photo is really what I need.
with the original shifter 4L is over to the left and ahead. 4H is straight ahead and 2H is straight back. I wish I had a pic for you but I don't. hope this helps a little anyway. I don't remember how the shifter itself is put together I just tore it apart and took the lever and never paid any attention. I'm prob. not much help here
