Automatic Transmission Problem
Last night I backed up out of a parking space and when I put it in drive it wouldn't move. It seemed like the transmission was locked up. Any idea what happened? The truck was running fine. It's a 2002 Ford Ranger 3.0 with auto transmission.
Any suggestions on getting it serviced? I'm tempted to go to a dealer. What do you think the problem is? Repair costs? The fluid looks good - no burning smell.

The way I take it You backed up Fine then put in Drive and truck wouldnt go at all.
So then what???
Did the Moter just Rev Up and truck didnt move
Did you try to shift it back into reverse and try to get it to Move??? would it go if Manualy put into 1st or 2nd gears
was the Gear Selector Stuck too????
With that year of truck I would Assume its Electronicaly controlled
So Lots of Possibilities here
Bad TCM
Bad Silinoid
Wire SHorted out
Bad Pump
Linkage Issue
Bad Trans Range Sensor
Trans fluid needs drained and Filtered to Check for Metal shavings also check the filter

Hi,
I backed out of the parking space. I put it in drive & it wouldn't move. I gave it some gas & it seemed to be locked up. The motor didn't rev up. I put it in reverse & that worked OK. I also put it in 1st and 2nd & nothing. The gear selector seemed fine.

with that year there is probably a scanner they plug into it
if you have a DVM and can find out what wires go to shift silinoids you could ohm them silinoids out
probably an oil pressure test port
