Alright so I have a monster size ford ranger and did the 302 swap. I had it all built the way I wanted and it didn't work out so I was hoping someone could help me choose a set of heads and intake manifold possibly. I believe it's a 1980 econoline block that's been bored .30 over and has flat top pistons. A 268h comp cam in it with short hedman hedders. And I have a Holley 600 carb. Let's see what we can build thanks! Matt
I had a set of 68 289 mustang high compression headS with roller rockers and the water jackets didn't line up with my block so it would slowly start to overheat. So took em off. I have a stock 5 speed zf tranny and transfercase out of a 93. F-250 with a ford 9in rearend and Dana 44 HP in the front with 4.10 gears and 38x15.50R18 toyo mt's
The 351w is wider and taller than my 302 that's why I went with it in the first place. I would have to do alot more mods tO the steering the firewall and frame to stuf that motor in there and I would have to start over on my build so I was just thinkin about heads maybe another cam and a new intake manifold?
I was happy with the power and torque I had, just tires if the over heating issue. I got good mileage and had plenty of power to roast those 38's in second gear I've got a video too.
Late model('87+) 302 heads will be fine though you'll be better off with GT40s or something from the aftermarket with no more than 1.90"/1.60" valves. A dual plane intake will outperform a single plane too just don't buy an ordinary edelbrock performer because it's basically the same as the stock ford intake. I'd have to agree with the others in that you could use a motor that makes more low end tq, so maybe put a 347 stroker kit on the future upgrade list.. same power a 351 would make in a smaller package.
That's the setup I was thinkin. Stroker kit, and instead of my 268h cam go with the 270h "more of a lope at idle" and gt40 heads with my 1.7 roller rockers port and polished and a dual plane intake.
