Bad engine vibration 2000 E350

I have a 2000 E350 with 153k.
So I got in the van today to go pickup some parts to do the breaks and it felt like I had a bad drive-line vibration. Almost like an unbalanced drive shaft.. but it wasn't.
I drove around and played with it a little and it seems sometimes to go away when I spooled up the turbo and sometimes got worse...
Almost felt like a misfire.. sometimes.
Truck usually pulls hard when I hit the gas. But not this time...AND it didn't always happen.
Going on a 160 Mile trip today to the west side of the state.
So ill see if this continues.

What injector maintenance should I have done ? Any required ?
Could it be a spark plug ?

Also after reading some posts I am now concerned with this fuel tank pealing thing... Does this happen in every truck ?
How soon does it happen ?

I was about to put in some diesel Aid.. I got for free on this forum...
is this stuff trouble ? Concerned now with this fuel tank thing. Ugh

I have not investigated anything yet...

First i will change fuel filter and oil and see if that helps.

Any suggestions to help eliminate items would be great !
Thanks

Smoke out the tailpipe?
If so... what color and how thick is it?

Service engine soon light?

You need a scanning tool that plugs into the obd2 port to do a buzz test. Only certain few of these devices work on our trucks. Most here will recommend AE. AutoEnginuity.

Fuel restriction can cause rough running conditions, and definitely issues with power loss. Typically these symptoms will appear with no ses light in the case of fuel restriction.

A partially disconnected uvch, under valve cover harness... can also cause these conditions.

Are you under 1/4 tank of fuel?
If yes... again, signs point to fuel restriction or broken pickup foot.
Search "hutch mod" in the search bar up above.

No, No Smoke what-so-ever. I cant even get it to smoke on a bad day...
But Im also driving looking at the rear view and side view mirror.. maybe I am missing a little...
Shouldn't these smoke a little when you hammer on the gas ?

I can guarantee you that it is not a sparkplug .

Diesel additive won't hurt anything...I'm checking the UVCH, if it were mine...the give away to me was when you said "I drove around and played with it a little and it seems sometimes to go away when I spooled up the turbo and sometimes got worse...

ok - this is my first diesel... Glow Plug.. sorry! ha
But do the glow plugs run all the time or just for starting?

Anyway...
Dug a little today and its a disaster.. Do I need this air resonator box ? Its big(and cracked)doesnt seem efficient.. Air box is also cracked and broken on the top letting all kinds of dust and crap into the turbo which is super dirty..

I cant get the fuel filter off ... do I need a special wrench? or can i just use a big pair of channel locks ?

Also, Do i just open this thing up and swap out the filter..
The tech service manual tells you to do all this crap like disconnect fuel lines.. battery cable.. ect.. Necessary ?
Do i need to drain the fuel out of it or just leave it ?

NEXT is this fuel water separator handle... how often do I pull this ?
Should I see water drip out somewhere ? haha

Thanks!!!!

The glow plugs are used for starting, but they may run a minute or so after the truck starts.

The filter box MUST be fixed asap. I am guessing you have some turbo problems due to ingesting dirty air. Can you take a picture of the vanes on the turbo impeller? This would help a lot. If the vanes on the impeller are worn (from dirt) then it (the impeller) would for sure need to be replaced. I don't recall ever hearing of an air resonator box...sorry.

Yes you can use channel locks or a strap-wrench will do it. I used a piece of 1"x1" wood about 12" long and put it across the top and was able to get one off once.

Also, Do i just open this thing up and swap out the filter..

I would drain the filter first (using the yellow lever at the back of the housing). Not necessary to do anything else to change the filter.

That is the drain lever I mentioned above. Just open it every now and then to drain off any water that has accumulated in the filter housing. The water is heavier than diesel and will be at the bottom of the housing. You can hook a longer hose to the drain and then drain into a glass container...then you can see if there actually is water in there...it will be at the bottom of the container.

Thanks!!!!
You are most welcome !

UPDATE: Changed the Oil, Air, And Fuel Filter.
Discovered shenanigans under the hood.. and attempted to fix.

Turns out the intake tube to the Turbo had cracked and broken-- air box letting in almost all dirty air.. If any air was going through the filters it wasn't much!

Turbo Looks Pretty Dirty..

But Seems to spool OK...

There is a odd noise coming from what I think is the fuel pump... Does this sound correct.. Have to listen to audio.. don't pay attention to video..

Problem fixed for now.. Other problems discovered.

I capped my resanator box hole cause its a pita on our vans.

that oil looks normal to me as mine looks similar from my dog house residue.

when you did your fuel filter did you happen to look at the bottom of it? I know the fuel heater is in there, but mine was BAD full of redish sediment.

and for those truck guys. the yellow drain valve for us van guys have a long cable (mine is broke) to open it up that is on the passenger side area by the oil dip stick. took me till I did my fuel bowl to figure out what that thing was for lol. cause you can't reach it with out taking things out to make room. its a pita for sure.

could be the harness under the valve cover maybe? or an injector going bad?? just thoughts
