NOT EBPV...What's next??
Picked up F-350 w/PSD saturday in Atlanta. Drove to St. Louis Saturday. Ran fine. Got about 15+ mpg. No problems, no smoke when first stating on Sat. Morning.
Sunday Morning 16 degrees, started on third short try. Some usual cold diesel smoke. Drove about a mile after a 5 minute warm up. Ran fine. Went to fuel up..allowed to idle while fueling...left station and it started to smoke rREAL heavy and lost power...would not accelerate and will not go past 2000 rpm's.
Coaxed home.
Have talked to local ford 7.3 "experts" and have ford service manual.. Unhooked the EBPV but find that it is free and not the problem.
Took entire intake air box apart, inspected the filter, nearly new, and observed the turbo turning when engine is running...
Trying to rehook linkage to EBPV is a bear...
Manually operated the EBPV and it apepars to be functioning properly.
What is causing the tremendous amount of smoke when I try and accelerate the engine?
It also started first try in 5 degree weather...
Service Manual does not have a diagnosis that fit the symptoms that I can find.
Open to any suggestios...
Thanks
BAD FUEL!!!!
I had put fresh fuel in the back tank on sunday morning at the local CFM Sites Oil Co. Store. They are the ony diesel place and the city fuels all of their vehicles there...They should not have bad fuel...
I let the truck idle while fueling and within 1/2 block after idling for about 5 minutes after fueling, it started the smoking problem. I have the receipt and it is clearly diesel...not gasoline that I put int he tank.
Went back with receipt in hand and was treated lke s#@$.
The local ford dealer is testing the fuel for me. WIsh I still had my fuel analytical lab that I used at NHRA and I could test it myself.
Mechanic at dealership was the one that suggested switching tanks...I was too busy focusing on other items to think of this. Went hme and switched...let idle for about 5 minutes and it cleared right up...
Now I need to change the filter and drain a tank of fuel.
Is it hard to drain the rear tank?
What could be in the diesel to make it smole like that?
The CFM station could have gained a new customer that spends between 5 and 8 grand a year on fuel. Not now..seeing as how they treated me...
