First - F350 4x4 cclb 2001 151,000miles. Stock tires, 6637 intake, rebuilt tranny at 115,000.
Just replaced fuel filter 2 days ago. prior to that I noticed a slight vibration at about 30mph. Now if is getting worse. More vibration throughout all gears and now at idle. very slight, but there. Also my truck will now put out a nice cloud of black smoke, which is cool, but it never did it before. It is kind of weird, I can put out black smoke and today I also broke the tires loose going into second gear. also my fuel milage is considerably worse than say last week.
so in summary - truck starts and accelerates good. Sounds good also
- vibration at idle and different speeds. The exhaust tip acutally vibrates now - very visible
- bad fuel milage
- now produces black smoke
- turbo seems to whistle a little louder
What can it be. did the new fuel filter uncover some issues, or ??????
It almost sounds like your UVC harness is acting up, except for your no loss of power. Are you able to pull any codes? Did you fuel up at some place different than usual?
Just fishing :-)
I filled it up completly for the first time in awhile. I also added Howe's diesel additive. But I have used that before with no issues. I will try to get some codes pulled. It seems to be getting steadily worse. But still not bad, but I do not want to wait and see.
That is what I was thinking. How much is a new or reman injector and are they hard to put in. do I need to get a buzz test to find it or is there another way?
I can just put in 1, correct? I do not have the cash right now to do them all.

You can replace one at a time no problem.
Do you have a way of doing a cylinder contribution test?
The one with the highest percentage of RPM drop will be the culprit.
Well I found a good Diesel shop close to me and took her in.
the guy seemed very familar with psd. He hooked up his snap on unit and ran a bunch of test. He did the contribution test. Everything was great. We took it out for about 30 minutes, had the slight vibration but he felt nothing to worry about. could not get it to kick out the cloud of black smoke. He said maybe some bad fuel, or could be a drivetrain issue, but he felt the truck ran great.
He was trying to push Bully dog chip though. I will post on that separately.
