two days ago i was driving down the road and the truck started bucking (bad) and then quit...i coasted into a parking lot and observed that the fuel filter was dirty as hell so i walked over and bought a new one...started right up and was fine..... till tonight, Same thing happened but i was able to baby her home, but its cold as hell and too dark to check the filter but i cant see it going bad in 2 days. Any Ideas??
Did you get a CEL? What have the temps been when this happened? Are you running any fuel additive? Have you done the in tank mods? What color is the smoke after starting back up? Is the engine oil full and when was it last changed?
filled up 2 days ago right after replacing the filter. yes it has additive. oil is full change 2500 miles ago. not sure what CEL is? it is 28 degrees. no intake mod. smoke color is dark grey
Your intank filter may be clogged. When ya get a chance, take the fuel line that goes into the fuel pump off, and blow some air back up into fuel tank with an air hose. Then hook back up and see if it goes away. If so you need to do the in-tank mods.
Yep. Frame rail, right under the driver door. All you'll need is a nut driver, a bucket to catch some diesel, and an air hose. May not be your problem but its an easy test.
The screens inside the mixing chamber on the fuel pick up assembly in the tank can get clogged. This mod eliminates the screens and modifies the fuel return to minimize air bubbles in the fuel line. There's a picture of a dirty and clean screen in this thread. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-no-power.html
