Absolute flat road with no wind and CC set to 65 MPH: 4PSI boost over here. Stock sticks and turbo with a 60HP tune gave me 30 PSI boost (at the turbo, not the MAP line). The last link in my signature will give some help.
Fresh air filter?
Cat?
Soot anywhere under the hood? Anywhere at all?
Hissing under the hood?
EBP sensor is suspect, but a clogged exhaust would do the same.
My best MPG mods? AE and fix everything that's not right. Can your tuner look at EBP and MAP readings with the key on, and engine off?
I will look into the at rest ebp and map readings... I have had good luck with Fitch fuel catalyst on all my vehicles. I now can run plus fuel instead of premium in my BMW because of the installed Fitch fuel catalyst. Long story short... Ups octane and Cetane in diesel
I think he meant stock "setup" turbo wise with a tuned truck. I can easily see 24, 26 if I push it at WOT depending on my tune. I concur, about 3-6 cruising at 65.
Just to reinforce the information already stated, the biggest factor effecting fuel mileage is the mechanical condition of the vehicle. The next biggest factor is driving habits. Once those two things check out, you can seek out better mileage in other places.
One thing I always point out to people is that if you buy tunes expecting a huge mileage gain, you will most likely be disappointed. Most people will see 1-2 mpg better, while others will see more, and some less. The good thing with tunes is that you get about the same mileage, but A LOT more power. Some other benefits to custom tunes are better transmission characteristics, and having an overall fun truck. They really wake these trucks up to the point where you actually enjoy driving it.
We would be happy to get you setup with tunes if you are interested. We have a few different options available. You can either get a chip(F5 or F6), or we have the Infinity monitor/programmer available. This unit will do it all. It will hold an unlimited amount of tunes, monitor PID's(generic and Ford enhanced), datalog, read/clear DTC's, run tests(KOEO/KOER, glow plug, cylinder contribution, buzz), play media, and much more. It is also fully customizable and allows you to monitor up to 24 PID's on one screen. Additionally, you can add external inputs to monitor other data such as EGT's, and fuel pressure. It is way more convenient then having AE, because you do not have to carry your laptop around just to see what is going on. If you would like to check it out, you can find more info HERE.
If you would like to check out the rest of our tuning products we have available for the 7.3L, go HERE.
I would be happy to help you out with any other questions you may have. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail or PM.
What's your wheel and tire size? Any suspension lift? 7.3? How many miles?
