Check Engine Light Codes

I have a 2008 F-250 6.4 liter diesel super duty.
I have the following code numbers and messages when the check engine light comes on.1. P2002 Particulate trap efficiency below threshold bank1
2. P244A No description found in the DTC data base
3. P1000 Monitor checks not complete
Could some one please explain to me what they mean and how to fix them.
Thanks guys I appreciate your input.

Both P2002 and P244A refer to too little backpressure measured from the DPF. Could be a badly cracked DPF, exhaust leaks before the DPF, failing pressure sensor, leaks in the connection to the pressure sensor, etc.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
The air filter is an AFE K&N washable filter. It was installed on the engine five years ago when the truck had 8,000 miles on it.
If it has been on the engine that long then why now the problem?
Truck has 33,000 miles on it now.
Thanks,Ron

I would not say that is the problem but could be. If you have the stock filter I suggest you try it and see if the codes come back.

At any rate if you take it in because of the codes you will want the stock one on so they don't just send you back out the door.

Do check your MAF sensor and make sure it is ok.

Hi
Don't want to sound to ignorant but what is the MAF sensor and where is it located?
I am a retired mechanic both gas and diesel but am from the old school and not familiar with these new electronics so any help that you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Ron

Maf is the sensor just after the air filter minder. Be careful with it It has a wire that reads the air coming in. Just make sure there is no debris on it. and that it is not broken

Hi Ron. I don't want to sound pushy here but if you really have an 08 6.4L truck and don;t know what and where the DPF is, you need some help. I don't even know where to begin but the DPF (Diesel particulate filter) is what sets this truck apart from all previous diesel powered trucks or boats or whatever. So, you might do yourself a lot of good if you were to go through this forum and just read some threads on DPF, or just google it to get the general idea and then fine tune your knowledge on here. Once you,ve done that you will be better able to frigure out what the codes are about. Most likely a sensor but could be a lot more serious. Hope this helps as that is how it.s intended.

if you have a k&n air filter and it gets over oiled the oil can mess with the MAF sensor
