column-operated: i would think this is possible. you may need some sort of universal linkage (Lokar?). Keep in mind that the shift pattern is different between the COM and the C6.

trans cooler: lots of options here. personally, i'd snag one out of a junkyard and plumb it in.

electrical switches: on the C6,i think the neutral safety switch is located on the transmission, instead of on the column under the dash.

I had one made and it cost me around $200 if I remember correctly. Got rid of the 2 piece drive shaft and went with a 1 piece drive shaft. Simpler, less trouble.

With regard to the column shift, the COM has three slots for the forward gears - white dot, green dot & L. Of course you drive it in the "green" dot.

On the C6, you have D, 2, 1. It seems to me that if the shift lever on the C6 is comparable to the one on your COM, you could just hook it up and place your gear selector in the "white" dot for drive. Perhaps someone can confirm that.
I'm applying that same logic to the AOD I'm about to install in my truck. The Mustang GT donor shifter shows OD, D, L. I'm modifying the shift lever on the trans to simulate the COM so I should be able to place my column shift selector in the "white" dot for OD. I want to avoid putting the ugly Mustang shifter in my floor! Will let you know if it works.

No such thing as a white dot. Take a close look at your dial, one of the two green dots has faded.

C5TZ-7B033-A .. Shift Indicator Dial ~ Two GREEN Dots, one is larger than the other / Obsolete, not reproduced.

Original applications: 1965/66 F100/250 240/300 C4 / 1965/66 F100/350 352 MX Cruise-O-Matic // 1965/66 F350 240/300 C4/MX used a different two green dot dial (C5TZ-7B033-C).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C7TZ-7B033-E .. Shift Indicator Dial: PRND21 / Reproduced.

Original applications: 1967 F100/350 *C4/MX Cruise-O-Matic / 1968/72 F100/250 C4/C6 / 1968/72 F350 C6 & MX Cruise-O-Matic (300 I-6 only).

Since C5TZ-7B033-A is obsolete, not reproduced, the repop sellers list C7TZ-7B033-E for 1965/66's instead.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1973/77 F100/350: The shift collar (D5TZ-7228-A) is different, has a slot in it for a plastic shift dial pointer (D3TZ-7A110-A).

This shift collar is the "Service Part Replacement" for the 1965/72 shift collar and is available from Ford, includes the pointer.

Thanks for the clarification, Bill, but I would question whether the "white" "Drive" dot on my prindle was ever green....

But the whole point of my post was not about the color of the dot. I was merely trying to suggest to the OP that since there are 3 forward gear selections to the right of Neutral on his COM column and 3 forward gear selections to the right of Neutral on a later model truck with C6, he should be able to use his original column when converting to a C6 trans and simply place the gear selector in a different slot for "Drive".

I would avoid using a old trans cooler from the yard. You never know what kind of shape it is really in. Just a universal kit will be fine. $30-40 is cheap insurance.

Not the worst idea, but unless you really want to change the radiator, just use a kit that you can attach to your radiator.

You just need to have your front driveshaft shortened. Any competent machine shop can handle that.

The center of the white dot was originally green.

"Bill is correct", the Coorect Drive position is the Green Dot D, the first is 2nd gear, L is obvious.

Thanks, redman, but I already stated that above. The "dot" in question is the first one to the right of neutral, which is "white" on my truck. Bill is saying that one is supposed to be green also, only smaller. I'm saying that particular dot on mine shows no signs of ever being green. What about yours?
