ash tray/cup holder

My 2003 F150 "ash tray/cup holder" won't open unless I stick a screwdriver behind the edge and pry. I know this can't be right. There are small letters on the front of it that says push. Why would I push to make it open? I can't figure out how to get it out of the dash to see what is wrong. Any help on this would be appreciated.

With mine, I have to push in on it then it pops out. I think that is how it is designed.

Uh......have you pushed it? That's the way it works. You push it in about a half inch or so and it springs out of the dash.

Well why in the name of Jesus, would anyone "push" in on something that tells them to "Push"! Keep using the screw driver eventually it will fall out of the dash, and you can work on it.
