Would be best to get one that can Push out 120+ AMPS at Idel

My DC Power will push 140 amps at Idel

At cold start this will be when you need the Added Amps

Are you seeing 14+ volts during the GP cycle with the 190 amp DC alternator?

Alternator is always commanded to charge, it just cannot keep up with the demand of 130+ amps at idle cold.

If that's the case these fancy 270 amp alternators should have full voltage available at startup. They don't until the GP turn off...

Curt's05 and ZRT600Guy have 270 amp alternators and 14+ volts at idle during GP cycle.

There are others with 270+ amp alternators and report the same.

Where are you getting your facts?

I would think the 190 is borderline to achieve 14 volts at idle during glow plug cycle.

I dont think it makes it quite to 14 volts

But more the 13.0-13.9volts range at this specific time

And to be Honest I would have to really watch it next startup to make shure

The part in red is an old urban myth that is not right..
Someone had posted a video that shows that is just not true.
I did a little test here at home with some charging system
test tools and also show that the alternator is charging at
startup. It just very slow in catching up with the demand
of the glow plugs.

That's what I was thinking that the 190 amp is still marginal (in relative terms) for achieving higher volts during glow plug cycle.

I'm think a 250 amp alternator, with 270 being the normally available unit being the minimum to get 14 volts with glow plugs operating.

My own alternator is rated at 160 amps peak (not sure exactly what it would be rated cold idle), and as you see in the video only gets 12.4-12.5 volts at idle with glow plugs.

The stock 110 amp 6G is even worse.
