As far as the ford long block,,, I've also got first hand experience with that also. If you have the $$$$. It's a done deal. The only down side, no studs. Two year unlimited mileage is unbeatable. And they have a no risk core charge.... Which means you can beat your old engine with a chain,,, n they done charge you any extra.
I think it's about a 30hr book time job.
I am the op that did the r&r in my driveway. It took forever cause I tried to go the reman route. Screw those companies. Blackwater used copper gasket spray on the head gaskets. Victor reinz gaskets at that!!!! Performance machine n manufacturing used different studs n victor reinz gaskets,,, even tho arp's n oem gaskets were demanded. Ok, heck with it,,, I just want people to know what to expect if they go that route. Matt at performance machine might just call me about this post, since he thinks he made me happy with a full refund,,, But the month I spent bs'ing with them was free I guess.
Bottom line,,, if you really want to know what you have,, do it yourself,,, if you want it done quickly and properly,,, the dealer is a great option. But definitely ask the tech if he knows what ARP's are. If he won't install them,,,, I'd be towing it to a different dealer. Spring for a better than stock egr cooler also. You can research that. I'd like to follow this situation either way.
The key word I read was DOWNPAYMENT!!! He'd own what he has now,,, Besides,,, there's no "hopefully" installed right,,, it's a ford crate engine, installed by a ford dealer, with a nationwide 2 yr warranty. If the truck has been beat up n not taken care of, then possibly trade it in. But as far as my truck goes,,, I keep up on maintenance, and fix stuff when it breaks,,, I'm very confident there ain't a truck on "carmax's" lot that would hold a candle to mine. I know that wasn't your quote, just sayin. It depends on how he feels about the truck,,, he knows if the truck has been taken care of. Quick question,,, I think if trading in is an option, how long is the list of little things that need fixed on your truck. Do you live with "little" issues??? If so, and thinking that trading in is the answer, the new truck will eventually be in the same shape as the one that was traded in. Dunno if my point was conveyed in an understandable manner,,, but it just my thoughts. Main question is, do you like the truck??? Personally,, I wouldn't do it to an 03-04, I like the suspension, interior, and front end of an 05-07 much better,,, but that's also why I have the year I do. And I've had two 06's. hope I didn't offend anyone, but I spent a chunk of cash and learned some hard lessons,, so I'm kinda passionate about it.
Do you still have a link to the photos you posted? You should go ahead and give the link.
I think that myself and Anthony have the special tools to set the 2 crank seals
and the cam to crank timing tool. I think that Creator may have some of them also.
I don't know who else has a set and can tell you that they are a good size investment.
The tools I don't have are the injector and glow plug sleeve tools. But I hear that
is not some thing you really want to do.

4X4 on bad or icy hiways .
I have had one issue since I bought it the ECS was starting to go out a couple of year's ago it was replaced and has been fine since.
If I go new I told the dealership I want new top to bottom he is trying to tell me that they don't offer it with a new turbo-I call bull chit
for that much money I am going to get what I want not what he want's.
Another thought has anyone heard of the BLACK MAMBA CRATE MOTOR
425hp+ and 885FT/LBS of TORQUE
Then buy a new turbo and put on it.???

I need to pull the trigger soon I have to leave back to work on the 12 of Febuary.
I was talking to the service advisor and he was talking with the part's counter,Look's like I need to talk to them for my self.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Blackwater Engine pics:
Victor Reinz head gasket with copper coat and black paint. (were they trying to cover up the part number?)

Here's a poor quality video walkaround I did. Note the paint job with cheap paint.... A 3 year old could have done a better job painting it. I had to clean pain off of every single gasket surface.

I'll be posting more on the whole thing in a couple weeks when certain time frames have expired. Feel free to PM or call with any questions.
If you go with Blackwater you might just get an old tired block, bored 4 over (.040) with an old crank that may or may not have a slight imbalance to it.
Man I really don't know what to do
who sell's a good crate motor for the 6.0L
Dealer say's get a new truck
I am Torn between my FORD'S
The only tool I don't have and really need to get is the heavy duty engine stand
Norco 78200A Engine Repair Stand

They tend to be a bit on the higher side of stands but well worth it with an
engine this heavy.
It is really not that hard to build up an engine. The guys trying to pull
every cent out of the job tend to cut too many corners for my liking.
The only other things you will need is a good machine shop and some skills
and the books for the specifications and time so you can do a good job.

I Bought the truck through him 3 yrs ago this coming August traded in my 97 F-250 7.3 they gave me $3000.00 and $2000.00 cash with fianance charges the truck was $18000.00

It had 120000 miles on it.I am not rich by no means just a oilfield hand that has alot of toy's and make's my payment's
I have this truck my harley davidson the fifth wheel and the ATV all fiananced through this same place yeah the dealer and me live on my budget lol.
He is saying we need to fix the truck for $5000.00 or trade it and start over with a new truck of course fiananced through him.
I dont know what to do really I like this truck it has been a good one up to now.
I'm no 6.0 expert, so maybe this is a dumb question but...do you really *NEED* a new engine. Does the possibility exist that you could spend quite a bit less to repair whatever is wrong with it, and use the money saved to start a fund to buy another truck a few months down the road?

RUN Far Far away! I ended up with an engine just barely in spec that blew it's gaskets within the first few hundred miles.
