Steve is probably right you, you don't need a slide hammer to get them out but it made the job easy. I got stuck and called a ford dealership when I saw those things and that's what they told me to use. I added you to my buddy list so we can chat when you get on.
Which pins are you talking about? Are you talking about the ones with the wires underthem that you can push down? I need to take those out? What all do I need to disconnect to get down to the actuator. So far,I've disconnected as much as possible, the alans behind the shift lever, some of the other screws near the lock cylinder. The part of the column with the lock cylinder pulls forward but wont come completely off, it seems to be connected by all the wires attached to the turn signal and whatnot. I know where the actuator is, but I just can't get to it. I'm afraid to pull off the turn signal thing and whatnot because of all the wires, I'm not sure if I need to disconnect the wires or not, because if I do, I'm not sure I'll get it all back together. I have a really good memory, so I can put the column back together just great, but I'm afraid to do anything about the wires. Are there anymore detailed diagrams on dissassembaling the deal? Sorry, I'm not online that much, I'm usually busy, heh heh. Maybe I can talk to yatomorrow, we'll see. This thing is a pain in the butt to get off for me. I'm trying to follow Steves diagram as best I can though.
we are talking about the pins on which the steering column TILTS. You will se what we are talking about wehn you start to dissassemble it but you are obviously past that point, or so i think.

You should pull the turn signal, and its connector will BARELY fit out thru the holes in the column. Get it out of the way. Put a couple of the allen screws back to hold the lower collar on the column, and remove the tilt pins (one on each side with a threaded hole in the middle).
Okay! So good news, I'm down to the actuator which is in TWO pieces. But, how do I disconnect the ignition rod from the actuator? Theres a bar across the actuator thats holding the ignition rod in place, I can't seem to get the stupid bar out to remove the broken actuator
Okay, got it all out. Now I can't get the new actuator in. No matter what position I can try it in, it WILL NOT GO IN. It's really starting to make me incredibly angry. I'm done with it for now because theres no way it's going to go in. Theres a metal piece that blocks it from going in, if theres anyway to get it in, it'd be to bend itout of shape and try and bend the actuator back into shape once it's alittle bit in, but there is still no way to do that either. Ford did an awful job at designing this.
DON'T EVER BEND IT. It'll break. You just haven't removed everything you need to. It's been a LOOOOOONG time since I did this, but I think there's a block in the top of the column near the boss for the lock cylinder, and it's retained by a screw. Pull that, and you should be able to insert the actuator.
No, you won't have any. Just pay attention to what you are doing and you will be fine. like I said, I did mine in about 3 hours but I waas goofing around though i WAS careful.
I'll have to message you tomorrow Tom, but eitherway, Steve - Idon't see any other screws to remove the thing. I don't see anything to remove the big metal part so that I can get the actuator in there. If I can't get it off, theresr no way I can get it in. I've looked all over and I've removed every screw that I can find and thats it. If I could take pictures or something I would. It's really annoying
