So, got my Banks IQ installed today, ran up the interstate to Bass Pro to pick up some stuff, tried to pay attention to the numbers once warmed up (best I can recall).
A warmed up 6.0L is at 190 *F coolant (+/- a degree or two). The oil temp should not exceed a value of 15*F more than the coolant temp (really anything over 10*F is indicatng a developing issue w/ a clogged oil cooler IMO).
Should I wait to sound alarms for after I do an oil change? Just bought the thing, no clue whats in it. I have a new Motorcraft filter and Rotella T6 5W-40 ready to go.

You need a new t-stat, once you have normal coolant temps then you can compare to oil temp and see what issues you may or may not have.
I would wait on the oil change. After installing the new thermostat, if your temperature differential is high, then you need a new oil cooler (and you probably have an issue w/ the coolant also). If you need a new oil cooler, then you would be wise to ALSO install a BulletProofDiesel EGR cooler or delete the EGR system at the same time.
Unfortunately, MANY people ignore the coolant maintenance and drive until the oil cooler is plugged on the coolant side. Then they dump the vehicle on any unsuspecting buyer that they can.
The good news is that the fix is well known and it isn't too bad if you catch it before the EGR cooler fails and causes issues with hydrolocking a cylinder.
Just doing some preliminary research, is the Dorman oil cooler a big no no? Used their stuff on my old Chevys a lot with good results. Don't want to cheap out on this one though if it is not a good thing.
I wouldn't wait too long. As I said, an EGR cooler failure could be VERY painful and if the oil cooler ruptures, the repair cost can go up quite a bit. If you can do the work yourself, we can tell you how - otherwise, it would be good to be looking around for a trusted diesel mechanic.
I would stay away from Chinese made oil coolers (ie Dorman) ...........
Alright, new one on the way, I should have it Tuesday. Looked up a couple of guides, seems easy enough. I'm not a fan of reusing coolant though, I suppose I should plan on getting some from the dealer right? What kind and how much should I drain? I have hose pinching vise grips I use to do t-stats on SBC's, how much coolant can I expect to lose? And are these like any other engine, half coolant and half distilled water?
