With the OEM Ford Gold you can "really" only top off with another G05 Gold coolant like Ford Gold, Zerex Z05 etc.

Topping off with Rotella ELC is a waste IMHO

One last question on this topic, I ordered a Sinister Coolant Filter kit, should I wait to change the t-stat for when that comes in so I can do it all at one time? Want to minimize spilled coolant. We are talking maybe a 100 mile difference in mileage on the truck from today until the filter kit comes in a few days. I'm sure how much coolant is lost when installing the kit.

First thing first, I think you should check the conditions of the oil cooler and egr cooler. There's a test procedure for this. Get the engine to operating temp. ECT ~190*, WOT... check oil temp., if more than 15* change oil cooler. That's the most important thing to me.

If you want to install a new thermostat and coolant filter, you can either collect the drain coolant to reused for the time being. Seem that you will flush the coolant to replace it with ECT eventually anyway, so why worry about reuse coolant short term?

Just to re-emphasize what bullet390 said. If the truck now has Ford gold in it do not use the elc. It'll screw your cooling system up. They are incompatible as a mix.

Ford gold looks kinda like pee. ELC I believe is red, maybe depending on the brand.

Most ELC coolants are orange or red.

But Dex-Cool garbage is also orange.

And the new Rotella Ultra ELC is yellow.

Then there is conventional green.

Cummins is blue and there is also pink and purple.

As for Ford Gold? I would say 9 times out 10 any gold or yellow colored coolant in a Ford 6.0 is likely Ford Gold and not Rotella Ultra ELC or any other ELC.

And hopefully if you do find orange or red it is actual ELC (like Rotella ELC or CAT EC-1) and not GM Dex-Cool.

Thanks! I'm just gonna bite the bullet and do a whole flush. Won't be able to do it until next Saturday probably but I won't be driving the truck much either. Gotta get some Cat ELC and Restore first anyway.
