I have always just purchased Motorcraft plug wires but a friend recently told me that Motorcraft's wires are no better than the generic wires from the parts stores. He said I should go with Accel or Mallory. I'm just wondering if someone can help fill me in on the differences and tell me why certain brands are better. Thanks
I honestly don't really know what the difference is. I am running Ford Racing 9MM wire's because I was recommended them when doing my ignition tune up with hotter ignition parts. The way I see it, if the Motorcraft ones haven't let you down, no need to change.
I've noticed that better quality wires are generally closer to an exact fit vs being a mile too long. OEM, NGK, Denso, Bosch, all make decent wire sets. The cheap Autolite, Duralast, BWD, etc will get the job done just not fit very well.
On a mostly stock vehicle, The Ford Racing wires work well and yield a lower resistance than many OEM type wires. Most stock plug wires will read about 2K ohms per foot, or higher, and the Ford Racing wires read about 1K ohm per foot.
If you're looking for the lowest resistance per foot, then the MSD Superconductor or Taylor Thundervolt wires are about your best bet. Both companies claim 50 ohms per foot but the cost is going to be higher than the Ford Racing wire sets.
I purchased a roll of the MSD wire and made my own plug wires so that the lengths would be just right. I remember measuring the resistance on mine and all of the wires measured slightly less than 50 ohms per foot.
