wont shift

i just bought a 96 f350 7.3 150k automatic tranny,when i put it in d its like its in 4th gear.i have to manualy put it in 1 then 2 then drive. whould this be the ****ing module thanks dav

Solenoid pack in the transmission most likely....are there any codes ?

Most likely it's not the solenoid pack. I've never seen one where both shift solenoids fail at the same time. I have seen several where something happens to the wiring supplying power to the shift solenoids. When the solenoids lose +12 volts the trans goes to fourth gear and never shifts.

how do i check that i have 12v.and if i take my truck and get a scan will it show me anything thanks

A scan will show you that you have some open circuits in the wiring. I think you already know that. Now you need someone that can find wiring problems. A good voltmeter and some knowledge of how to use it is needed now.

I don't want to sound condescending, but if you don't know how to find out if there is power to the solenoids maybe you need to take it to a pro that does this for a living. Any independent shop can do this for you.
